LaunchVic: Startup Ecosystem Mapping and Economic Contribution of Startups

In 2025, LaunchVic commissioned dandolo to map Victoria’s startup ecosystem in order to:

• Maintain an in-depth understanding of the Victorian startup ecosystem
• Understand how Victoria compares to ecosystems in other jurisdictions, and
• Understand how Victoria’s startup ecosystem has changed over time

dandolo conducted in-depth economic and ecosystem mapping analysis, which involved:

• Cleaning, linking and triangulating data from multiple datasets, such as DealRoom, Revelio and internal survey data.
• Extending insights from previous reports including, for example, startup employment, strengths of Victoria’s startups, understanding of founders, and international trade.
• Developing targeted case studies to give more ‘real life examples’ to the data findings.

The ecosystem mapping reports provided the LaunchVic and the Victorian government with a clear suite of insights to target the delivery of its supports and investments in the startup ecosystem.
