A not-for-profit organisation with an interest in improving the early years system commissioned dandolo to understand the barriers to, and opportunities for, VET educated early childhood educators to upskill into degree qualified teaching roles. Our project developed a framework which identified hard (i.e. institutional) and soft (i.e. cultural) barriers to educators entering university qualifications and successfully completing them and transitioning into teaching roles. We engaged with academic and experts, and, through focus groups and interviews, with different workforce groups. We also completed a cost-benefit-analysis to add an economic lens. Our work was published by our client, and framed their development of upskill courses in partnership with universities.
